LANDSCHAPsBRIEVEN (LanDSCAPE LETTERS)
2025
Interactive embodied drawing ritual in public space during Land Art int the City: Een kunstroute dwars door Almere, Land Art Flevoland and Jij Bent M. Almere (NL)
Performance, ceramics and raw clay from local soil, hand-made paper sheet from recycled personal writings and organic material collected during a walk around the Weerwater lake.
Landscape Letters invited people to create intuitive drawings as a meditative way to connect with themself, others and the surrounding landscape.
At the entrance of the pier, a crayon made from local clay and a small ceramic vessel shaped from the same soil were handed to each visitor. Both objects were carried in the palms of the hands together while walking across the pier. Water from the Weerwater lake was poured into the vessel, allowing the crayon to dissolve slightly and create a watercolor effect on the paper.
The paper was made from recycled personal writings such as diary fragments, poems, and unsent letters, combined with organic materials gathered around the lake, including leaves, flowers, and feathers. While on the pier, visitors drew intuitively, attending to their own sensations, the surrounding landscape, and the presence of others. Before leaving, each landscape letter was placed next to the others, forming a collective surface of shared perspectives, memories, and experiences of the same place.
