    WORKSHOP: MOVING AcROSS CULTURES

    Workshop for first year students at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie designed and hosted together with Miriam Bestebreurtje (Director Bachelor Education), duration: 2,5 h.

    As you start your journey at the Rietveld Academie, you will enter an environment with people of various cultural backgrounds. Are we aware of how they influence our behaviour and those we expect from others? Do we have the sensibility to recognize potential misunderstandings? How can we find each other in each others differences?

    In this workshop students were invited to move around in the space and playfully map out themselves and their cultures in relation to the others. The exercises inevitably raises questions on generalizations, prejudice and  disrimination. It also becomes visible that it is not so easy to seperate yourself from a broader, collective context you were brought up in and are (still) situated in.
